A church was founded in the area in 670AD
Stoke-on-Trent is in the area known as The Potteries, due to the large number of potteries situated there in the past. Natural resources in the area, such as coal and clay, aided the development of pottery manufacture, though clay was also brought in from Cornwall via the Trent and Mersey Canal
The town was involved int he steel industry too and played a major part in production during the Seciond World War
